Spring is just around the corner and for parents, that means spring break!

We all know how relaxing it is to get away from the hustle and bustle of reality, but sometimes our bank accounts and schedules can suffer from it.

If an exotic getaway just isn’t in your money or time budget this year, it doesn’t mean you can’t create your own paradise right at home. Here are a few staycation ideas for you and the kids that aren’t just fun but cheap too!

Take a Day Trip

Get those babies loaded up and head out for the day! Whether it’s to Chicago, the library or just a drive down a backroad, getting out of the house can feel so refreshing!

Book a Hotel Near You

It might not be near the beach, but staying in a hotel is always a great to escape for a few nights. Find a hotel close to home and enjoy its many amenities. From the pool to the room service, you and the kids are sure to have a great time.

Become One With Nature

Spring is a great time of year to get outside and enjoy nature. Whether it’s in your backyard or a place like Potato Creek State Park, getting some fresh air is good for the soul. The kids will definitely enjoy burning off some of that extra energy in the great outdoors!

Try A New Restaurant

Going on vacation usually means trying new food at a new place! Find a restaurant that you’ve never been to before (maybe in a nearby town you don’t normally visit) and enjoy the excitement of an unfamiliar atmosphere. Who knows, you might get those picky eaters to try something different.

Go Camping

If weather permits, pitching a tent in your backyard and camping out for the night is some inexpensive entertainment. Roasting marshmallows and telling campfire stories doesn’t cost a whole lot! The simplest things in life can make for the best memories.

Plan A Game Tournament

Pick some favorite card games and board games and plan a daylong tournament. Your kids can invite friends or you can keep it a family affair, as long as you keep track of how many games each person wins. Make sure to stock up on snacks and create a fun little gift package for the winner.

Movie Night

You can still feel like your on vacation without even leaving the house! Let the kids pick out some of their favorite movies and have a marathon. Staying in can feel just as relaxing as going out on the town. Don’t forget the popcorn and candy!
