In the age of technology, family time is important. Spring Break gives families an entire week to bond and spend time with one another (even if that means the occasional sibling argument…).

This year, save the wear and tear on your vehicle (and your wallet) and consider creating memories at some of these local spots.

South Bend Cubs

Take your kids out for a night of baseball and fireworks at Four Winds Field as the South Bend Cubs take on the Lake County Captains on Friday and Saturday, April 9 and 10. Don’t forget to dress warmly, though, as Michiana weather is… unpredictable.

Michiana Parks

Get out and enjoy the fresh air at one of Michiana’s many parks. The sun, the outdoors, and family time are a perfect combo for Spring Break. Check here for a list of parks in South Bend, Mishawaka, Elkhart, and Goshen.

Potawatomi Zoo

Visit South Bend’s zoo just as it opens for the season. The animals will be awakening from their winter slumber and you and your kids can be some of the first to visit them for the year! Do your kids really love animals? Consider signing them up for Spring Break ZooCamp (for ages 6 to 9).

Barnaby’s Pizza

A local mainstay in pizza, visiting Barnaby’s is an entire experience. Escape the hustle and bustle of daily life with the ambient lighting and mellow atmosphere inside the restaurant. Plus, the delicious pizza is sure to make everyone in the family happy.

The Amazing Shake Indiana

Do you have a kid in grades 5 to 8 with incredible manners and etiquette? Consider signing them up for this two-day competition (April 10 and 11) where they show off their soft skills to local business owners and vie for a chance to go to the national competition in Atlanta.

Ag Days

Start Spring Break off on the right hoof by checking out the 2020 Ag Days at the St. Joseph County 4-H Fairgrounds from Friday to Sunday, April 3 to 5. Browse the exhibits and visit with the animals, and there will be hands-on activities for kids.

University Park Mall

Yes, it can be a hectic place, but between the different shops, eateries, and activities, you and the family can lose half of a day exploring what UP Mall has to offer. Reminisce about days gone by, and show your kids what a good time the mall can be.

Urban Swirl

The weather will (hopefully) be turning warmer, so it’ll be the perfect time for an afternoon fro-yo. If you’re lucky, you can even enjoy the patio! Kids love it. Teens love it. You love it. Win-win-win.
